MANILA – Negrense boxer Rowel “Renz” Rosia captured the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation flyweight belt after stopping Arnold Garde in the eighth round of their clash on Friday night at the Maco Municipal Gym in Maco, Compostela Valley.

The victory was huge for the Cadiz City, Negros Occidental fighter as he was able to snap his two bout losing skid while also tallying his first victory in his final five boxing games.

Among Rosia’s losses came from Thai boxer Jakkrawut Majoogoen for the OPBF silver super flyweight belt and Genisis Libranza for Philippine Games and Amusements Board flyweight title on 2018 and Ponciano Remadiman.

Both fighters traded hits early in the match before Rosia capitalized midway when he unloaded consecutive combinations on Garde until he was able to send his opponent to the canvass.

With the victory, the 31-year-old Rosia has improved his boxing record to 15-8-1 win-loss-draw as he also notched his eighth stoppage victory.

The 29-year-old Garde, on the other hand, saw his boxing slats slumped to 10-8-3. The Davao City-native fighter also has four victories by way of knockouts./PN
