SAN JOSE, Antique – Lone district representative Loren Legarda declared the beginning of the province’s “golden age” as she took her oath of office on Sunday.
“Today, we mark the start of the golden age of Antique. The past few years served as a preview of what we can and will offer to our people,” said Legarda during her inaugural speech in ceremonies held at People’s Plaza in this capital town.
“The next three years will be a period of continued change towards better education, more jobs, healthier Antiqueños and a greener, resilient and sustainable province,” she added.
Legarda enumerated all the laws that she authored in her three terms as Senator, her accomplishments as Chair of the Senate committees on Finance, Climate Change, and Foreign Relations, her environmental work with international organizations, and her advocacies that have all prepared her well to face challenges, provide solutions and accomplish targets of the province.
“It is unacceptable that our province is blessed with so much natural resources from the mountains and the seas, yet it is the poorest in the region. We should not allow our people to live in poverty,” she stressed.
Legarda also appealed to her kasimanwas to put an end to divisive politics.
“In order to achieve our vision for our province, I also need the help, cooperation, and malasakit of each Antiqueño,” she said.
The congresswoman also said she envisions Antique as progressive, united, peaceful, resilient, sustainable, and respects its environment and heritage./PN
