MANILA – Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo will try to extend its unbeaten run in the 2019 Philippines Football League when it faces Green Archers United FC this afternoon at the PFF Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
Heading into the match slated at 3:30 p.m., the Ilonggos are still on top with 15 points after winning their first five matches while the Green Archers United is at fourth with 10 points after six games.
Kaya-Iloilo continued its winning ways after scoring a 5-0 victory over the Philippine Air Force FC last week with Jordan Mintah firing two goals. while Alfred Osei, Ilonggo Jovin Bedic and Darryl Roberts added one each.
“If we keep playing this way we can go far,” said Kaya-Iloilo head coach Noel Marcaida. “Aside from fitness and 100-percent performance what’s key in the league will be consistency both in games and in training.”
This will be the second meeting of the two squads. Kaya-Iloilo handily won its first encounter with the Green Archers United on May 25, 4-0, with Jordan Mintah tallying hat trick.
Over at the Biñan Football Stadium in Laguna, defending champions Ceres-Negros FC, currently at second place in the standings with 13 points, will have its hands full against Stallion-Laguna FC which is at third spot with 11 markers.
Even with its unbeaten slate after five matches, the Busmen seemed not to have found yet its groove after a near collapse the last time out – a 4-3 escape over the Green Archers United FC on Wednesday.
Stallion-Laguna, on the other hand, is on a roll tallying one lopsided win over another, with the last a 5-1 domination of Global-Makati FC, thanks to goals from Ilonggo Jan Jesus Melliza, Mouhamed Sy, Darwin Regala, Nathaniel Alquiros, and Fitch Arboleda./PN
