KALIBO, Aklan – School officials in public and private elementary, secondary and integrated schools in the province are taking all precautions to thwart the rising cases of dengue.
Acting Assistant School Division Superintendent Jose Niro Nillasca said children are strongly encourage to wear protective clothing and long-sleeve clothes before they go to school.
Parents, guardians and school heads are also instructed to allow their school children to wear full pants, long or knee-high socks as part of anti-dengue campaign.
“School personnel and officials are also encouraged to do the same and to disseminate information on the prevention and control of dengue,” Nillasca stressed in his memorandum last week.
School officials are asked to look for breeding sites such as water collected inside and outside bathrooms, flower pots, uncovered tanks, taps and dustbins to protect school children from dengue.
From January to June, there are already 10 recorded dengue-related deaths in the province.
According to the Provincial Health Office, dengue fever has spread drastically to 82 percent with 1,405 cases, higher compared to last year during the same period.
The capital town of Kalibo, Balete, Banga, New Washington and Numancia are the top municipalities with dengue cases.
PHO recently launched its Aksyon Barangat Kontra Dengue campaign, which urged every barangays to keep the surroundings free from mosquitoes through regular cleanup activities. (With a report from Akean Forum/PN)
