BACOLOD City – The delivery of goods and services to Sitio Cansilayan in Brgy. Tabu and other upland communities in Ilog, Negros Occidental, and vice versa, is now more convenient and faster with the improved road undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways, Negros Occidental 3rd District Engineering Office.

According to District Engineer Haydee S. Alunan, the Concreting of Tabu to Cansilayan Road in the amount of P19.3 Million, funded under the District’s 2018 General Appropriations Act (GAA), involves concrete paving of 1,602-lineal meter road, 5.0-meter wide, 0.2-meter thick Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP), including provision of grouted riprap on portions needing slope protection.

Alunan added that the said road is classified as barangay road connecting to the National Tertiary Road, hence upgrading it from gravel to concrete will benefit approximately ninety (90) households of Sitio Cansilayan in terms of transportation accessibility that will provide convenience to the people living in the area.

“With the improved road, transport of crops and other agricultural products to market became more accessible and faster and travel time from upland communities to town proper is lessened by at least 20 minutes,” Alunan said.

The concreting of the said road section brought comfort not only in the delivery of agricultural products but also provided better access among the people in the upland barangays to the town and its neighboring towns and cities.

“We are very happy and thankful that this project was implemented in our barangay. Through this project, we will be able to deliver our products to the town and nearby cities at any time,” said Tabu Punong Barangay, Ms. Emilie G, Trimucha.

The improved road would address the issue of unpassable road during rainy days in the transportation of farm product/crops to the market. This will also help uplift the socio-economic activity of the people in the area and alleviate poverty in line with the programs of the National Government./PN
