Manila – Petro Gazz Angels forced a do-or-die in the 2019 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference finals after a 15-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-12 win over Creamline Cool Smashers in Game 2 of the finals on Saturday at San Juan Arena.
Wilma Salas posted triple-double 23 points, 13 excellent digs and 10 excellent receptions, while Janisa Johnson also have 23 markers on 18 attacks, three service aces and two blocks for the Angels.
Jonah Sabete contributed nine markers, while Jeanette Panaga also made eight points as the Angels stretched the series to a do-or-die Game 3 being played as of press time last night.
After losing the opening set, the Angels regained its form in the second frame as Johnson ignited a 6-1 run to break the 17-all deadlock. Johnson and Sabete then scored back-to-back to close the set.
The Angels were ahead early in the third frame but the Cool Smashers rallied to tie the score at 21-all. Salas and Johnson then put up the set-clinching touches as they took a 2-1 set edge.
Petro Gazz kept on with its steady play in the fourth set as Creamline struggled heavily. The Cool Smashers went on to build a 21-10 advantage en route to extending the final series to a do-or-die game.
Alyssa Valdez, who was named as PVL MVP for the third straight time, finished with triple-double 17 points, 12 digs and 10 excellent receptions, while Kuttika Kaewpin and Ale Blanco had 13 and 10 markers, respectively, for the Cool Smashers./PN
