BACOLOD City – Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson urged all disaster risk reduction and management councils (DRRMCs) in Negros Occidental to intensify preparedness as torrential rains continue to pour across the province.
“All city and municipal DRRMCs are advised to heighten preparedness. Take precautionary measures for moderate to heavy rains that may bring floods and landslides,” Lacson said in an advisory.
On Tuesday, the towns and cities of Murcia, Moises Padilla, Hinoba-an, San Enrique, Pontevedra, La Castellana, Valladolid, Candoni, Binalbagan, Ilog , E.B. Magalona, Cauayan, Isabela, Himamaylan, and Kabankalan suspended classes in all levels.
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office head Zeaphard Caelian said flooding was reported in seven barangays of San Enrique.
“In Pontevedra, nine families were evacuated due to rising water levels,” Caelian added.
Light to moderate, with occasional heavy monsoon rains, will still prevail over Western Visayas on Wednesday, according to the state weather bureau.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council advised the public to observe safety precautions as tropical depression “Falcon” is expected to make landfall in Cagayan province and bring heavy rains in most parts of the country today.
Residents in affected areas have been told as well to monitor updates about the weather disturbance and coordinate with their local government units and DRRMOs. (With a report from PNA/PN)
