BORACAY – The inter-agency task force implementing the rehabilitation on this famed-island resort appealed to tourists and residents to give them more time as heavy rains triggered flash floods in the island’s major thoroughfares on Tuesday.
“Kami ay nag-aappeal sa ating mga turista at residente dito sa Boracay sa naranasang flooding. Ito ay dahil sa ongoing construction ng drainage system, we are still not done with all these projects,” said Boracay Interagency Rehabilitation Management Group general manager Natividad Bernardino yesterday.
Natividad said the task force could only implement “mitigating” measures to address the flooding on Boracay due to unfinished drainage and other projects.
“Nag-recede na ang tubig baha kahapon sa may Ambassador Hotel, isang catch basin, na dati ay umabot sa tuhod ang tubig baha,” she added.
Bernandino explained the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority’s drainage improvement projects are still ongoing with its six packages will be completed next year.
“By end of third quarter of 2020, we are expecting na minimize na ang pagbaha at mabilis na ang pagrecede kahit malakas ang ulan,” she said.
Bernandino also stressed the task force cannot sustain the rehabilitation efforts if the stakeholders don’t cooperate and bear with the road improvement and sewerage works in the island.
