ILOILO City – “We are totally behind the President in his fight against illegal drugs and corruption because these two menaces ultimately steal the bright future of our nation and our children.”
This Cong. Julienne Baronda declared following President Rodrigo Duterte’s fourth State of the Nation Address on Monday at the Batasang Pambansa where he reiterated his resolve to stop these problems.
“This representation will join her colleagues in pushing for appropriate legislations that are needed to strengthen existing laws against illegal drugs and corruption,” said Baronda, the first female congresswoman of Iloilo City.
In pursuit of transparency and public accountability, Baronda said her office would be using social and digital media.
She also agreed with the President that Congress must pass laws or re-visit policies on national defense, national land use, employment, government right-sizing and barangay health workers.
“And I am one with Mayor Jerry Treñas in wanting permits and clearances done in three days, in line with the mandate of the President,” Baronda added.
Upon the opening of Congress on Monday, Baronda immediately filed several bills, including the Barangay Health Workers Act of 2019, Increase in the Bed Capacity of Western Visayas Medica Center from 434 to 700, the Inclusion of Arevalo Plaza in the Iloilo City Heritage Zone, and Conversion of Nabitasan Elementary School into Nabitasan Integrated School.
“My legislative agenda is attuned to my slogan Gugma Ko HOPE Mo. The bills and measures that I have filed and will be filing in the days to come are within the umbrella of my priority programs on health, employment), peace and order, and education,” said Baronda./PN
