ILOILO City – An elementary school girl, 11, complained to the police she was raped by a 19-year-old relative on Monday in Leon, Iloilo.
The girl, in Grade 6, said she was on her way home from a store where she bought sugar when she was dragged to secluded area and raped. It was around 6 p.m., she said.
According to Police Lieutenant Felix Perez of the Leon police station, the girl’s house was a kilometer away from the store.
“She was warned not to report the rape or her family would be harmed,” said Perez.
The girl, however, mustered enough courage to tell her grandmother what happened, and they immediately sought the police’s help.
The suspect was arrested and detained at the Leon police station.
The girl underwent medical examination, said Perez, and the result confirmed she was raped.
The suspect would be charged with rape in relation to Republic Act 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act), said Perez./PN
