TALISAY City — Some 10,000 Negrenses whose houses were damaged or destroyed by super typhoon “Yolanda” will benefit from P27.3 million worth of housing assistance from the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC).
HUDCC Undersecretary Cecilia Alba yesterday said they will release P20 million worth of checks for those with damaged or destroyed houses in Cadiz, Talisay and Victorias cities, and Manapla and EB Magalona towns.
“The amount per LGU (local government unit) and beneficiary will depend on the [severity] of damage,” Alba said.
She said they will soon release some P7 million for the housing project of a government employees’ cooperative in Hinigaran.
Alba was here yesterday with Vice President Jejomar Binay to lead the recognition of outstanding LGUs and homeowners associations. Binay said the housing assistance was one of things he promised the victims when he visited devastated areas in Negros Occidental after the onslaught of the super typhoon on November 8 last year.
Alba also said the government also intends to relocate communities classified as “danger zones,” which are usually in coastal areas.
“In Negros Occidental, we have identified seven LGUs with about 20,000 families” in danger zones, she said. “The government will relocate them.” Alba did not identify the seven LGUs./PN
