ICPO is PH’s best in community relations

ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has been adjudged the best in Police Community Relations (PCR) among police offices across the country.

According to Police Executive Master Sergeant Rosana Montero of ICPO’s PCR section, parameters in this award included the programs of the police office beneficial to the community such as organizing barangay anti-drug abuse councils.

The Directorate for Police Community Relations of the Philippine National Police defines police community relations as a policing system that can be equated with diplomacy such that even the subjects of policing actions view the system as the most acceptable form of police-community interaction to ferret out crimes, do some public safety related police work, or just carry out plain maintenance of peace and order.

“It’s really our honor and pride to get this national award. We are active in helping the community through our programs,” said Police Colonel Martin Defensor, city police director.

Some initiated programs of the ICPO were a poster-making contest participated in by students from different schools, feeding and distribution of slippers to poor elementary school pupils, according to Montero.

For the feeding program, pupils of Manuel L. Quezon Elementary School benefited.

On the other hand, poor pupils of A. Bonifacio Integrated School received slippers.

Manuel L. Quezon Elementary School and A. Bonifacio Integrated School were both in Barangay Tanza Bonifacio, City Proper.

Montero the ICPO also conducted school lectures on healthy food, crime prevention and illegal drugs./PN
