MANILA – Negrense boxer Carlo Caesar Peñalosa will vie for the vacant IBO world flyweight championship. He battles Mexican Maximino Flores on Aug. 25 at the TV5 Studio in Novaliches, Quezon City.


This will be the first shot of the San Carlos City, Negros Occidental native at the world championship after previously winning the WBC Asian Boxing Council flyweight belt.


Peñalosa will be entering the match with a 14-1-0 win-loss-draw ring record, including seven stoppage wins.

The 28-year-old Flores, on the other hand, has 24-4-1 boxing slate, with 17 knockout wins.


South African boxer Moruti Mthalane was the last to hold the IBO world flyweight. The 26-year-old Peñalosa has been on a roll lately. He won his last seven matches since suffering a close split decision loss to Reymark Taday in February 2017.


Among those whom Peñalosa defeated lately were Indonesian boxers Rio Nainggolan and Iwan Key, Tanzanian Jemsi Kibazange, and Thai Watana Phenbaan./PN
