DLNHS 2nd runner-up in Grand Slam 8 Softball

BACOLOD City – The reigning 2014 Palarong Pambansa secondary girls’ softball champion from Domingo Lacson National High School (DLNHS) here settled for second runner-up honors in the women’s club division of the summer Grand Slam 8 held at the Marikina City Softball Field from May 12 to 18.

After retaining the Palaro title representing Western Visayas, the team stayed for a week to compete in the tournament dominated by their older counterparts and former teammates now playing for schools in Metro Manila.

Defending champion University of Sto. Tomas, with majority off its players from DLNHS, claimed the title by beating the University of Mindanao in the finals.

Earlier, DLNHS lost to University of Mindanao, 4-2 in the crossover after their ace pitcher was injured. They won their elimination assignment, 5-0 en route to the semifinals.

In the Women’s Club division, Chikara of Brunei, also with players’ from the Philippines, outshined Adamson Team 2 for the title.

Chikara of Brunei is the first foreign team to win the championship.

The Air Force team claimed the Men’s Open Division with PAF Team B as second runner-up.

The tournament was under the supervision of the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines.

Summer Grand Slam 8 was also supported by the city government of Marikina, with the games held in their softball fields in Barangka, Sto. Niño and Marquinton-Sumulong.
