MANILA – San Beda University Red Lions kept its unbeaten slate in the NCAA Season 95 men’s basketball after a 70-66 escape over Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.

Evan Nelle top-scored with 18 points, seven rebounds and three assists on Saturday while Donald Tankoua chipped in with 15 markers.

The defending champions Red Lions stretched its unbeaten record to five matches.
It has been dominant since the opening quarter behind conversions from Nelle, Tankoua James Canlas and Calvin Oftana to establish a 62-51 lead entering the fourth.
The advantage went up to as high as 13 points late in the fourth quarter.

The Knights came up with a last push behind Ato Ular and Jerrick Balanza but could only come to as close as four.
“I am worried about this game because we’re playing a very strong team in Letran,” said Red Lions head coach Teodorico Fernandez. “They’ve been playing well last five games.”

He added: “Again, my players did a good job. I salute them for that. They played very good defense. It’s our mantra, to play good defense than offense.”

Balanza tallied 20 points, five assists, and three boards, while Ular added 11 points and seven rebounds as the Knights dropped 5-2 win-loss record./PN
