PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan – Iloilo’s girl volleyball team kept its semifinals hopes alive in the Batang Pinoy National Finals 2019. It defeated Caloocan, 25-15, 25-21, yesterday at the Palawan State University Laboratory Elementary School here.

Amie Provido recovered from a subpar showing against Davao de Norte on Monday by presiding over the Ilongga’s offense against the Caloocan to level their win-loss record to 1-1.

“We are glad that we are able to recover from our Monday loss. We were able to correct our mistakes there,” Provido said. “But we still have to win (against Antipolo on Wednesday afternoon) to make it to the next round.”

The Iloilo selection squad, on the other hand, kicked off its campaign in the girls basketball with a 79-62 domination over Mandaluyong at the Palawan National School Abueg Gym.

“It was a total team effort for us,” said Ilongga cager Keena Teruel. “But it was just the first game so we still need to bring the same effort in our next matches to achieve our goal in Batang Pinoy.”

Meanwhile, Bago City’s Kate Julienne Martinez delivered two gold medals in the athletics event on early Tuesday at the Speaker Ramon V. Mitra Sports Complex. Martinez got her golds at discus throw and shot put events.

In dancesport, Iloilo’s Cliff Pareja and Kealynn Castigador won gold in modern standard Juvenile A and silver in Juvenile D, while Mico Hechanova and Aleia Muyco got silver in Latin America. In Pencak Silat, Ilongga Krystal Alcarioto and Vanessa Viado won silver in ganda girls, while John Angelo Seguiban and Lloyd Marti Seguiban won bronze in ganda boys. Joseph Tacapan had silver in tungal boys./PN
