Jail guard in trouble for threat, estafa

ILOILO City – A jail officer and three companions face charges of grave threat and estafa.

Policemen arrested them at a bar at Smallville Complex in Barangay San Rafael, Mandurriao district before dawn yesterday upon the request of the bar management.

According to Police Major Marlon Valencia, Mandurriao police chief, Jail Officer 2 Iris Lizada, 37, and his companions refused to pay for the items they ordered.

He identified the three others as Agustin Pedrosa, 40; Joel Labordo, 43; and Julius Lizada, 21, all residents of Barangay Burriao, Lambunao, Iloilo.

The arrest was effected at around 2:50 a.m.

A .9mm pistol and 13 bullets were recovered from Lizada who was assigned at the Iloilo District Jail in Barangay Nanga, Pototan, Iloilo.

According to Saxxy’s Bar and Grill employees Luci Tiffany Sasarita and Garry Abeto, Lizada got mad when his group was asked to pay P2,025 for the items they ordered and consumed.

Lizada pulled out his service firearm then unloaded and loaded the gun with bullets, said Valencia, citing the statements of the frightened bar employees.

For his part, Jail Superintendent Gilbert Peremne, deputy regional director for administration of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, immediately ordered Lizada’s relief and the conduct of an investigation./PN
