Antique kicks off ‘crime prevention week’ today

SAN JOSE, Antique – A bike ride around this capital town by police personnel and other bikers associations will kick off the 25th National Crime Prevention Week observance today.

Master Sergeant Linda Luzarita, chief of the police-community relations, said this year’s event has the theme “Buhay Pahalagahan, Komunidad Magtulungan, Krimen Hadlangan.”

“We have invited the Antique Mountain Bikers Association and other bikers associations in the municipality to participate in the bike ride,” she said.

According to Luzarita, they are kicking off their national observance this Sunday with a bike ride to raise awareness to the public on the importance of helping in crime prevention.

“The activity will kick off around 5:30 a.m. from the police station with around 10 police personnel riding their bicycles,” she noted.

Other activities will include poster-making contest among the elementary and high school students at the Antique National School Auditorium on Sept. 4.

Meanwhile, town Mayor Elmer Untaran expressed his support to the municipal police station’s intensified campaign against illegal drugs. There are only 12 remaining affected barangays out of the total 28 sets to be cleared within the year.

“With the intensified campaign against illegal drugs, the municipality had zero crime rate during its major events like the Paskwa sa Banwa December 2018 and then during the Tiringbanay Festival last April 2019,” Untaran said. (With a report from PNA/PN)
