BACOLOD City – There will be no fare increase in southbound public utility jeepneys (PUJs) despite the 60-day traffic experiment here which starts next week.
PUJs plying Punta Taytay, Sum-ag, Tangub, Singcang-Airport, and Magsungay going downtown will be affected by the rerouting, said Police Lieutenant Colonel Luisito Acebuche, head of the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO).
Southbound PUJs will enter the Public Transport Terminal on Ferero-Burgos streets beside the Bacolod Vendors’ Plaza in the Reclamation Area.
Upon reaching Gatuslao-Rizal streets they will proceed to South Capitol Road then turn left to Ayala Malls, turn left to San Juan Street, then turn right to Burgos Street going to the Public Transport Terminal.
Acebuche said Ferero Street, currently a two-way street, will become a one-way street during the traffic experiment.
The rerouting aims to ensure that southbound passengers enter Ferero Street, he added.
About 400 sidewalk vendors have been transferred to the Bacolod Vendors’ Plaza, following the clearing of roads and sidewalks as ordered by President Rodrigo Duterte.
The vendors are complaining that few people go to the Vendors’ Plaza; the traffic experiment may just offer them a solution./PN
