‘Tawag’ viewers dismay by contender’s low score

Fans and viewers of “Tawag ng Tanghalan” have been left waiting for the judges’ reasoning over wild card Mariane Osabel’s 16.50 percent score, demanding it under the Twitter trending hashtag #JusticeForMariane.

Many felt that Osabel’s performance – a cover of Whitney Houston’s “Run to You” – did not merit such a low score.

The score proved crucial as it led to Osabel’s elimination despite winning the voters’ poll (50 percent versus 33.74 percent) over her opponent, transwoman Mariko Ledesma.

That advantage was negated by the perfect 50 percent score Ledesma received from the judges, which pulled her overall average above Osabel’s. She sang “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.”

On Twitter Thursday, Vice Ganda wrote: “I talked to the staff and told them that the viewers’ sentiments have to be acknowledged.”

The host added that he had asked for Louie Ocampo’s thoughts specifically since he was the head judge for the episode.

Vice Ganda also said: “They’re aware na madaming disappointed. I myself was shocked…”

Osabel, in reacting to her losing her chance to sneak into the grand finals of “Tawag ng Tanghalan” via the “Ultimate Resbaker,” said: “I know a lot of you are confused and frustrated, so am I.”

“But don’t worry kasi hindi ako magpapaapekto and that won’t stop reaching for my goal! Kung hindi para sa akin, kahit ano pang gawin ko, tumambling man o lumuhod, ‘di talagayan akin.

The “Ultimate Resbaker” part of the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” allows previously eliminated contestants a second chance to perform and perhaps enter the show’s grand finals. (ABS-CBN News)
