MANILA – Presidential daughter and Davao City mayor Sara Duterte denied influencing the appointment of Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) officials.

Sara on Sunday said several people approached her for endorsement requests due to rumors circulating that she has been given a hand in the selection of three BARMM posts.

“I categorically deny this and wish to reiterate that my authority is only within the area of Davao City as mandated by the Local Government Code,” Sara added.

She said she has no influence either in the appointment of other national government positions.

Last week, the Department of the Interior and Local Government said it was mapping out ways to provide technical assistance to BARMM for its transition.

This came as the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) signed a landmark pact with the government in 2014 to end a separatist insurgency. The agreement led to the creation of the Bangsamoro, which was overwhelmingly approved in a January voting.

Murad Ebrahim, the MILF chairman, took his oath as interim chief minister of the 3-year transition government of the BARMM in February this year./PN
