PAVIA, Iloilo – Escalante Elementary School emerged as champion in the 2019 Inter-Elementary School Dalawahan Chess Competition held recently at the GT Town Center here.
Led by Jeacuambs Cuambot (Board 1) and Aeralyn Sinining (Board 2), the Negros Occidental-based squad claimed the top prize of P3,000 and a certificate.
Alimodian Central Elementary School of Vaughn Robert Oberio (Board 1) and Armany Harley Salvador (Board 2) settled for a runner-up finish with a prize of P2,000 and a certificate.
Integrated Laboratory School – WVSU of Kierra Mareneth Pabalinas (Board 1) and Kirk KenjI Pabalinas (Board 2) took the third place with a cash prize of P1,000 and a certificate.
The one-day tournament for 14 years old and below was participated by 16 schools from Western Visayas with each team having two players and 20 minutes time control (seven-round Swiss System).
Other participating teams were Leon Team, Central Philippine University, Leganes Elementary School Team Lion, Team Pavia, Sta. Monica Catechetical Learning Center, St. Joseph School Iloilo Inc., Ateneo de Iloilo Team A and B, San Miguel Elementary School A and B, Medonn Learning School, Pavia Pilot Elementary School, and Leganes Elementary School Team Tiger./PN
