BACOLOD City – With a little over a week before the Department of Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) deadline on the removal of road obstructions, the city government here has reminded all village heads and officials of consequences should they fail to obey DILG’s order.

As of Sept. 23, at least 14 out 64 barangays in this city were declared 100-percent compliant in claiming back public roads from private users.
These villages include 8, 9, 10, 18, 22, 23, 24, 31, 37, Felisa, Mandalagan, Montevista, Villamonte, and Vista Alegre.

Executive Assistant Butch Soliguen, cluster head on Barangays, said these villages were declared ‘fully compliant because “these areas did not have as much to clear as other barangays.”

Last week, City Legal officer Atty. Joselito Bayatan, bared that 16 villages have submitted their accomplishment reports on road clearing.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia, for his part, said the compliance of the 61 barangays here is already 80 percent as demolition is still ongoing in some barangays.

Leonardia earlier reminded all village heads and officials in this city to “impose their authority” in implementing the order to reclaim public roads being used for private purposes.

Sept. 29 is the last day of the 60-day ultimatum that President Rodrigo Duterte gave local chief executives throughout the country to reclaim all public roads being used for private ends./PN
