ILOILO City – Seven policemen in Western Visayas are suspected to be recycling shabu confiscated in anti-illegal drug operations.
The names of the policemen appeared in President Rodrigo Duterte’s list of these so-called “ninja cops”, according to Police Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan, director of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
Pamuspusan declined to name the seven policemen or pinpoint where they are assigned.
“We admit it is hard for us to pin them down because we have no evidence. We need to catch these erring cops red-handed,” said Pamuspusan.
The President himself will identify the 762 “ninja cops” in his list after his visit to Russia; he returns on Oct. 6.
Pamuspusan said the PRO-6’s intelligence division is monitoring the movement of the seven policemen.
Previously, he said, there were 33 suspected “ninja cops” in the region but some already retired, died, went AWOL (absent without official leave), or were reassigned to other regions.
“So we are left with seven, all still in active service,” said Pamuspusan.
In a speech in Parañaque City on Sept. 25, Duterte slammed policemen who “sell drugs and go scot-free, and they think they are the lords of this country.”
“Well, I’m sorry to tell you, everybody dies in this world but you will go ahead first. Remember that,” said Duterte./PN
