Senate lifts contempt order on 2 BuCor exec

MANILA – The Senate has ordered the release from its custody the two Bureau of Corrections personnel earlier cited in contempt.

Before adjourning the hearing, Senator Richard Gordon, chairman of the blue ribbon and justice committees, said on Wednesday that Corrections Senior Inspector Belinda Bansil and Corrections Officer 3 Veronica Buno have asked him to allow them to go home.

“We have two people under confinement and they are crying inside the lounge. They deliberately lied here and they admitted they lied. Ang sabi niya ang anak niya nawawala, Veronica Buno sa Muntinlupa, they want to come home. Sabi ko baka mamatay kayo diyan kami pa ang masisi,” Gordon said, adding that 12 people have been killed in Muntinlupa by riding in tandem.

Minority Leader Franklin Drilon then asked if the two have already testified truthfully to the committee, to which Gordon replied that they have named names during the executive session.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III then said that they can already lift the contempt order against the two.

Drilon agreed with him.

Gordon said he will coordinate with newly-appointed BuCor director general Gerald Bantag to ensure the safety of the two personnel. (GMA News/PN)
