MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte assured teachers that their salary increase  will be given this year.

Speaking to the reporters upon his arrival from Moscow, President Duterte said that the government is already working on the salary increase being clamored by the public school teachers.

Mas marami ang teachers, pero nandiyan po, darating ‘yan, this year,” said President Duterte, who refused to give an exact date when will the salary increase take place.

“If I give you the timeline, tapos I could not make it on the deadline, I have to explain more than what is expected of the government. Mas mabuti na ‘yang nandiyan na, sinasabi ko, nandiyan na ‘yan,” he added.

The Chief Executive has promised before the start of the year to increase the salaries of public school teachers within the year.

Public school teachers have been clamoring for a salary increase after pay hikes for police officers, soldiers and other uniformed personnel last year.

Under the current set up, entry-level public-school teachers, which have a Salary Grade 11 under Tranche 4 of the Salary Standardization Law, earn a monthly salary of P20,754./PN
