JAMINDAN, Capiz – The Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) recently conducted a three-day 2nd Regional Youth Leadership Summit (RYLS) here.
“The Filipino youth are considered as the most valuable resource. If the government would invest in something, there is nowhere to invest better other than the youth,” 3ID Commander Major General Dinoh Dolina said.
The RYLS was participated by a total of 60 youth leaders from across Western Visayas.
The RYLS, anchored on the theme “Youth of today, leaders of tomorrow,” aims to empower the youth through leadership training and instill the spirit of patriotism, nationalism and social responsibility.
Dolina also reminded the youths – who will be responsible to the success and failure of the next generation – of their role in the society.
“The youth is the hope of the motherland. As the next generation of leaders, the future of the nation lies in your hands,” he said.
Among the speakers during the event were Richard Sevilla of the Department of Social Welfare and Development who discussed the integral role of the youth in their respective communities; Mary Chris Medina from the Department of Labor and Employment, who introduced potential livelihood training for the youth; Stephen Bediones from the Provincial Planning and Development Office-Capiz, who tackled project proposal development; and former rebels “Ate Glen” and “Lab-lab” who shared their insights and experiences when they were in the armed movement.
The Philippine Army and other peace-oriented advocates introduced the youth summit program to protect the youth against alleged terrorist recruitment.
