ILOILO City – University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses women’s athletics team repeated as overall champions in the 2019 University Games yesterday at the Iloilo Sports Complex.


Negrense sprinter Jessa Mae Jarder emerged as the Most Valuable Player, the most bemedalled Golden Tigresses athlete – six gold medals and one silver medal.


The Victorias City, Negros Occidental native Jarder netted her individual gold medals in women’s 200-meter and 400-meter dash and in the 400-meter hurdles.

Jarder also had gold in the 4×100-meter relay with Ilonggas Berna Luz Talaron, Pamela Marquillero and Elvy Villagoniza as well as in the 4×200-meter relay and classical relay.

Jarder also won a silver in the 4×400-meter relay.

“I just want to thank God for giving me strength to compete and win medals here in the University Games,” said Jarder, a former standout of Victorias National High School.
Iloilo City native Villagoniza had four golds, for her part, in long jump and triple jump and a silver in high jump.

Pavianhon Marquillero had four golds, including in 100 meter hurdles.
Meanwhile, Bago City, Negros Occidental native Kiervi Sumande Abelo of the UST Tigers athletics team took home a gold medal in the men’s shot put event./PN
