‘Asin’ task force urged Antique LGUs to monitor salt distributors

SAN JOSE, Antique – The Regional Bantay Asin Task Force (RBATF) urged the local government units here to monitor their local salt distributors to ensure their compliance with the set standards.  

The RBATF under the Regional Nutrition Committee, recently monitored salt distributors in Sibalom, Antique to check their compliance of the Republic Act 8172, or an Act promoting Salt Iodization Nationwide, that ensures the proper storage and selling of salt fortified with iodine.    

After a feedback session with the representatives of the Provincial Health Office, Office of the Municipal Mayor of Sibalom and the Municipal Rural Health Office, the task force urged salt distributors to secure their permits with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The inter-agency task force is composed of representatives from the FDA, the departments of Science and Technology, Public Works and Highways, Agriculture, Health, the National Food Authority, Philippine Information Agency, and the Regional Nutrition Council.(With a report from Pilar Mabaquiao/ PIA-Antique/PN)
