MANILA – Creamline Cool Smashers and Petro Gazz Angels reached the finals of the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference after sweeping their semifinals foes.
The Cool Smashers kept its title-retention bid alive by showing Motolite Power Builders the exit door with a 25-18, 25-15, 25-8 sweep in Game 2 of the best-of-three semifinals.
Alyssa Valdez spearheaded the offense anew with 15 points off 10 attacks, three service aces and two blocks while Michelle Gumabao and Celine Domingo added 12 markers each for the defending champions.
Jessica Galanza added eight points, 11 digs and eight excellent receptions. Julia Morado had 21 excellent sets while libero Kyla Atienza protected the floor with 19 digs and 12 excellent receptions.
“We really banked on our experience as a team for months, for years. We’re really happy na naitawid namin ang semifinals but we know na marami pa kaming kailangan sa training this week,” said Morado.
Meanwhile, the Angels also made a return trip to the finals and a rematch with the Cool Smashers after also sweeping the BanKo Perlas Lady Spikers with a 28-26, 25-17, 25-17 Game 2 win.
Jovielyn Prado hammered down 11 attacks in her 13-point outing and added 14 excellent receptions and 11 digs for an all-around outing while Stephanie Mercado and Jonah Sabete got 11 and 10 markers, respectively, for the Angels./PN
