ILOILO City – The Department of Tourism Region 6 (DOT-6) said their new program Oplan #LoveGuimaras Assistance Package (OLAP) aims to entice more tourists to visit the island-province of Guimaras.

DOT-6 regional director Helen Catalbas said the launching of OLAP last week targeted around 126,000 foreign and domestic visitors of the province in a year.

“The launching was marked with the turn-over of colorful umbrellas to be used by passengers and tourists at the embarkation/disembarkation points located at Parola Wharf in Iloilo City and the Buenavista and Jordan wharves in Guimaras,” Catalbas added.

She said the umbrellas symbolize the return of the lively, vibrant and robust tourism industry which turned gloomy and inactive after the Aug. 3 sea tragedy which claimed 31 lives.

“The DOT-6 cannot just sit down, relax and see Guimaras tourism go down into oblivion with many residents suffering from the aftermath of a sea tragedy,” Catalbas added.

She said the event last week was consulted by the local government units and private stakeholders of Guimaras.

“It is a promotional and assistance package that will earn for the province of Guimaras’ tourism community P425,817,000 after a year from the date of OLAP launching,” added Catalbas.(With a report from PIA/PN)
