PBA teams fight for q’finals position as Govs’ Cup elims ends today

MANILA – Quarterfinals positioning are set to be settled as the elimination round of the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup closes today with a pair of matches at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

Facing at the end of the elimination round were NLEX Road Warriors and Alaska Aces at 4 p.m., followed by the matchup between TNT KaTropa and San Miguel Beermen at 7 p.m.

Already assured of quarterfinals seats were the Road Warriors (8-2), Meralco Bolts (8- 3), KaTropa (7-3), Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings (7-4), Beermen (6-4), Magnolia Hotshots (6-5), and NorthPort Batang Pier (5-6).

Fighting for the eighth and final quarterfinals seat were the Aces (4-6) and Columbian Dyip (4-7), while Rain or Shine Elasto Painters (4-7), Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters (3-8) and Blackwater Elite (2-9) were already out of contention.

For the Road Warriors, regardless of a victory or defeat against the Aces, they have already secured the No. 1 seed in the quarterfinals, while a win by the Aces will secure them the No.7 seed, pushing Batang Pier to No. 8. A loss will forge a knockout between the Aces and the Dyip.

For KaTropa, a win will move them up to No. 2 seed and pushing the Bolts to No.3, while a defeat could forge a three-way tie between them, the Kings and Beermen with the final rankings to be determined by the final score of the TNT-SMB match.

The top-four teams have a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals where the No. 1 will face the No. 8 seed team, No. 2 against No. 7, No.3 against No. 6, and No. 4 against No. 5./PN
