ILOILO – The provincial government is shelling out a P1-million financial aid to the Iloilo City government for the January 2020 staging of the Dinagyang Festival.
“In years past the aid used to be P500,0000. We doubled it for 2020,” said Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr.
He also disclosed that the Iloilo City government and Iloilo Festivals Foundation, Inc. (IFFI) are letting the provincial government manage the viewing stand at the Dinagyang judging area No. 2 on Iznart-Solis streets.
The provincial government used to manage the Dinagyang viewing stand in front of the old provincial capitol (Casa Real) but for the 2020 edition of the festival, the city government and IFFI decided to move it closer to the downtown area (Iznart-Solis streets intersection).
Defensor said the provincial government’s Dinagyang visitors would be entertained in this area.
On Monday, Nov. 25, IFFI discussed with Defensor the Dinagyang preparations.
From the previous five, the 2020 Dinagyang would have four performance areas. These are the Iloilo City Freedom Grandstand on Muelle Loney Street; Iznart-Solis street; Ledesma-Valeria street; and Maria Clara Street.
Eight Dinagyang tribes have so far confirmed their participation. The contest is on Jan. 26, 2020. They are:
