MANILA – At least 13 persons died in Luzon and Visayas from the onslaught of the country’s strongest storm so far this year.
Based on the reports from Police Regional Office 5, five were killed in Bicol region, where Typhoon “Tisoy” made its first two landfalls.
Tisoy claimed five lives in Mimaropa, where it also hit land twice. Four people were from Oriental Mindoro while one died in Marinduque.
In Quezon, one died after being struck by lightning while fishing in Polilio Island, while another was hit by a felled tree.
One was killed in Leyte after also being hit by a tree.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Wednesday morning that a total of 495,408 individuals or 123,912 families are being assisted in Regions III, V, VIII, NCR and MIMAROPA.
The council added that a total of 38 houses have been damaged in Regions V, VI, CAR and CARAGA, while a total of 18 road sections, 12 are impassable and three bridges were affected.
Tisoy has made landfall for four times — in Gubat, Sorsogon; San Pascual, Masbate; Marinduque; and Naujan, Oriental Mindoro. The typhoon is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Wednesday evening or Thursday morning./PN
