KALIBO, Aklan — A company from Cebu City will conduct a comprehensive feasibility study on the modernization of solid waste collection and management in this capital town.
The Pollution Abatement Systems Specialists, Inc. (PASSI) had recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the municipal government here.
PASSI will conduct a two-month study that includes financial, technical, socioeconomic and environmental-impact assessment of the project, said Engr. Marlo Villanueva, municipal planning and development coordinator.
Villanueva said the “in-depth and detailed feasibility study of PASSI will be at no cost to the local government of Kalibo.”
Signing the memorandum on Wednesday afternoon were Engr. Julito Pogoy, PASSI president, and Mayor William Lachica.
The memorandum provides that PASSI will conduct the study to determine the viability of managing waste produced in Kalibo in coordination with the municipal solid waste management office until July 21.
“The joint venture [is also seen to] improve the waste disposal in the 2.7-hectare dumpsite [here] and address significant risks to public health and environment,” Villanueva said.
PASSI is primarily engaged in health care waste collection and transporting, environmental management systems, pollution control systems, material recovery facility, and black soil production.
In 2010, PASSI had its first joint venture with the Puerto Princesa City government for a medical waste treatment plant.
In Cebu City, the company adopts a modern autoclave treatment facility that uses heat, steam and pressure of an industrial autoclave in processing medical and septic waste. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
