Jamaica crowned Miss World 2019

THE Philippines’ Michelle Dee failed to bring home the crown in the Miss World 2019 pageant held in London on Saturday.

This year’s Miss World is Miss Jamaica Toni-Ann Singh, with Miss France Ophely Mezino placing second, Miss India Suman Rao placing third, Miss Brazil Elis Miele Coelho bagging fourth, and Miss Nigeria Nyekachi Douglas completing the top five.

Michelle, however, was able to advance up to the pageant’s Top 12.

During the pageant, Singh earned a standing ovation from the audience after belting out Whitney Houston’s hit “I Have Nothing.”

Asked why she deserved to be the next Miss World during the question and answer portion, she said: “I think I represent something special, a generation of women that are pushing forward to change the world. I wouldn’t say I’m different from any other women on this stage, but I will say that my passion for women and pouring into them and making sure that they’ve had the same opportunities that I’ve had is something that sets me apart.”

With Michelle’s loss, Megan Young, who won the title in 2013, remains the only Filipina winner in the contest’s nearly 70-year history. (Push)
