MANILA – Vice President Leni Robredo postponed the release of her much-awaited drug war report following a magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Davao del Sur.
“Minabuti namin na ipagpaliban muna…Panahon na ito na magkaisa tayo,” said the Vice President, who showed to the media a copy of her supposed drug war report on Monday morning.
Robredo added that the nation must unite to help those affected by the quake, the fifth earthquake above magnitude 6.0 to hit Mindanao since October.
The opposition stalwart also urged the public to donate tents and drinking water for affected residents in the Sunday afternoon quake.
“Many people in Mindanao have been traumatized by the series of temblors,” she said. “I am still consulting my team on the best time to go to Mindanao.”
Renato Solidum, head of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, said the quake could have been caused by the Tambulan Fault, which has a “low” chance of generating another tremor with a maximum magnitude of 7.2.
Some 442 aftershocks, the strongest of which is magnitude 5.2, have hit the region as of 4 a.m. Monday, he said.
Last week, Robredo announced she is releasing on Monday her findings and recommendations on the administration’s bloody antidrug campaign.
Robredo was previously appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as co-chairperson of Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs along with Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency chair Aaron Aquino following her comments that the administration’s war on drugs was a failure./PN
