BACOLOD City – A total of 17 scholars in Talisay City, Negros Occidental comprised the latest batch of graduates of the Digital Jobs PH Technical Training Project of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
The trainees underwent a virtual assistance technical training, which included a six-day face-to-face seminar and a 21-day online session, which began on Nov. 11 and ended on Dec. 17.
“Most of our completers are Information Technology (IT) graduates, some are household mothers. They are all jobless,” said Romeo Tome, provincial officer of the DICT-Negros Occidental, on Wednesday.
He added two of the scholars have immediately landed online jobs.
In Negros Occidental, 24 scholars in San Carlos City and 22 others in Cadiz City have been trained in digital marketing and e-commerce in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
On October this year, 22 scholars from Kabankalan City have also completed the digital marketing and e-commerce course while last month, 20 trainees graduated in Escalante City from virtual assistance technical training.
Tome said the DICT-Negros Occidental aims to implement the project in two sites per province every year.
“If there’s available budget, more sites can be covered. In fact, we already have pending requests. More employment positively contributes to the growth of the province’s economy,” he added.
In implementing the project, the DICT-Negros Occidental provides the training and identifies the appropriate module depending on the budget allocation.
The recipient-local government units have shouldered the cost of the training venue, computer units, food and snacks of the trainers.
After completing the modules, Tome said the participants underwent a 21-day exposure, which enabled them to look for employment online.
“Digital Job PH is really intended for employment generation,” he added.
The DICT provides training on various courses, including general virtual assistance, digital marketing and e-commerce, content writing, search engine optimization and advertising, social media marketing and advertising, graphic design, and web development.
The recipients should be 18 years old and above, at least high school graduates and computer literates.
The Digital PH Project, which started in 2017, mainly aims to provide technical training to unemployed and financially unstable residents in the province enabling them to land ICT-related jobs.(With a report from PNA/PN)
