14 Bingawan villages declared ‘drug free’

ILOILO City – A total of 14 barangays from Bingawan, Iloilo were declared free from illegal drugs yesterday, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Western Visayas (PDEA-6) said.

Bingawan is one of the first municipalities in the province to have all of its barangays cleared from illegal drugs, having complied with all of the parameters by February last year, it added.

The PDEA-6 said the town is also firm and dedicated in sustaining their drug-cleared status and challenged its barangay officials to continue their efforts in the anti-drug campaign, adding that the establishment of its “Balay Silangan” facility was part of the post-operation phase to preserve and maintain their status.

As of date, five municipalities and a city in the province have already been declared “drug-free” by the Regional Oversight Committee (ROC).

Bingawan Mayor Mark Palabrica led the presentation of the barangays to ROC chair Alex Tablate of PDEA-6 with representatives from the regional offices of the Philippine National Police, Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Department of Health.(With a report from DILG-6/PN)
