MANILA – Renz Rosia pulled off a huge upset. He defeated fellow Negrense boxer Aston Palicte via unanimous decision on Saturday evening at the Manila Arena in Manila City.

The victory was a huge boost to the boxing career of the Cadiz City, Negros Occidental native after a bumpy campaign the last two years where he was defeated in four of his last seven matches.

On the part of Bago City’s Palicte, the stunning defeat was a backbreaker for his career after failing to clinch the WBO world super flyweight belt against Kazuto Ioka earlier this year.

Rosia was the aggressor early on. He pummeled Palicte with combination hits.

Palicte tried his best to keep in step but Rosia was just too dominant and came out with a decision win.

With the victory, the 31-year-old Rosia improved his record to 16-9-1 win-loss-draw (eight knockout wins) while the 28-year-old Palicte dropped his slate to 25-4-1, including 21 stoppage wins.

In the undercard, Sipalay City’s Glenn Bismanos settled for a technical draw with Jomar Paliwen, while Pontevedra, Capiz’s Jomar Borbon bowed to Kristian Hernandez.

The fightcard was promoted by the Highland Hayashi Team of Brico Santig and DMAD Boxing Promotions of Darwin Miller Depay./PN
