MANILA – Filipino boxers Johnrey Loreto and Jhunriel Ramonal hope to end the year with a bang. They are gunning for World Boxing Organization championships on New Year’s Eve in Ota-City General Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan.
Loreto, a former IBO world light flyweight champion, will tangle with undefeated Japanese fighter Ginjiro Shigeoka for the WBO Asia Pacific minimumweight championship.
The 29-year-old Loreto, who is fighting in Japan for the first time since 2016, will attempt to bolster his current world ranking and add another belt to his collection against Shigeoka.
Loreto currently has 25 wins, 14 losses with 17 stoppage wins. He recently TKO’d Songkan Meechai of Thailand in the first round last May 19 in Bang Phli, Thailand.
Shigeoka enters the match unbeaten after four matches.
Ramonal, on the other hand, will try to get back to the world ranking and win the vacant WBO Asia Pacific super bantamweight championship against world rated Yusaku Kuga of Japan.
Ramonal (16-8-6, 8 KOs) will aim to move closer to a world title shot by winning an international title at the expense of Kuga (19-3-1, 10 KOs), who is rated number 8 by the WBC in the super bantamweight division.
In his last fight, Ramonal avenged an
earlier loss to former world ranked Shingo Wake by knockout in their 10 round
bout held at the Korakuen Hall also in Tokyo, Japan last October./PN
