Pons, Rodriguez rule Himamaylan beach volleyball

HIMAMAYLAN CITY, Negros Occidental – Negrense Bernadeth Pons and Dij Rodriguez of Team Negros ruled the 1st Mayor Raymund I. Tongson Jr. Beach Volleyball Women’s Open 2020 on New Year’s Day at the Batang Peninsula here.

Pons and Rodriguez clinched the crown in the one-day beach volleyball by defeating the Talisay City Team of Gelimae Villanueva and Kyla Gallego in the gold medal match.

Pons and Rodriguez, who copped a bronze medal in the 30th Southeast Asian Games women’s beach volleyball, bagged P10,000 for topping the tournament, while Villanueva and Gallego settled for P7,000.

Ilonggas Jackie Estoquia and DM Demontano of the Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors salvaged a bronze medal finish after beating Jennifer Cosas and Erjane Magdato of University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos.

For finishing at third place, Estoquia and Demontano pocketed P5,000 while the tandem of Cosas and Magdato had P3,000.

The ReadyGetSetGo Team of Myrtle Escanlar and Terri Escanlar, and R12 Team of Angel Canino of De La Salle Zobel and Bea Gapusan of University of Santo Tomas finished at fifth and sixth and had P1,500 each.

The one-day beach volleyball tournament was part of the 12th Bunlaw Festival of the Himamaylan City./PN
