MANILA – Bacolodnon guard Kib Montalbo has been extended a one-and-a-half-year contract by the TNT KaTropa after making him their No. 11 overall pick during the 2019 PBA Rookie Draft last December.

KaTropa team manager Gabby Cui said they have prepared an 18-month contract for the former De La Salle University Green Archers guard, which he will sign upon his return to Manila from his vacation in Bacolod City.

Montalbo, however, can only suit up for the KaTropa after he finishes his obligations with the Makati Super Crunch team in the 2019-2020 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup.

The arrival of the 6-foot-0 Montalbo is a welcome addition for the KaTropa as he will play back up to veteran guards Jayson Castro, Ryan Reyes and former Green Archers teammate Almond Vosotros.

Before moving to Manila for the Green Archers, Montalbo was a former standout of the St. John’s Institute Falcons in Bacolod City under its former head coach Dexter Dy.

Unlike Montalbo, the KaTropa is still in negotiations with Filipino-Peruvian guard Valandre Chauca, who the team selected as the 46th overall pick in the league’s annual rookie proceedings./PN
