ILOILO – The Municipality of Pavia is marking its centennial anniversary on Jan. 8, 2021. Today, it is kicking off a yearlong countdown and preparation for the big event called “Kaadlawan sang Pavia.”

“We will be celebrating our 100th anniversary or our centenary. Pavia separated from Jaro and became an independent town on Jan. 8, 1921,” said Mayor Laurence Anthony “Luigi” Gorriceta.

Today he is leading the unveiling of the “Centennial Countdown Timer Board” at the intersection in Barangay Aganan.

“May ara kita board nga may digital clock. Everyday naga-countdown until mag-Jan. 8, 2021,” said Gorriceta.

Before the unveiling, there will be a short 8 a.m. commemoration program at the Pavia public plaza. Today is the 99th anniversary of Pavia.

After the board unveiling and start of countdown, a tree planting activity (“Kahoy sa Kaadlawan”) will be held at Purok IV River Bank, followed by a multi-sectoral solidarity lunch (“Kaon-Kaon sa Kaadlawan”) at 11:30 a.m. at the Pavia gymnasium.

At 6 p.m. is the “Kasadyahan sa Kaadlawan” to be highlighted by a food festival. This is a cultural presentation and entertainment night featuring students of Pavia National High School and Kreonz Band at the Pavia public plaza.

Gorriceta said the yearlong countdown aims to constantly remind the people of Pavia to prepare for the big celebration next year.

“We want the people to get involved in the preparation and celebration. It’s a privilege achieving 100 years of independence, of being a self-actualized municipality,” he stressed.

Pavia has made big strides to progress in the past 100 years, said Gorriceta.

It has attracted many industrial companies and residential subdivisions, and many more are interested to invest in the municipality, he pointed out.

Gorriceta also revealed a plan to release an anniversary bonus to regular employees of the municipal government on Jan. 8, 2021.

He is studying, too, if it is possible to include barangay officials of Pavia in the proposed anniversary bonus./PN
