SAN JOSE, Antique – The provincial government here is planning to hold its Binirayan Festival in the summer months to let the public witness its grand historical and cultural presentations.
Gov. Rhodora Cadiao on Tuesday said a lot of vacationing Antiqueños and capitol employees, who wanted to participate, have requested that the festival be held during summertime.
“Christmas and New Year holidays are quite busy days,” Cadiao added.
Meanwhile, Vice Governor Edgar Denosta said aside from transferring the date of the festival, he also wanted the festivity to be held in other towns of the province.
“Holding the Binirayan Festival in other municipalities like in the northern towns of the province could also give a chance for other people in northern Antique to participate and witness the festival,” Denosta added.
Among the highlights of the Binirayan Festival last Dec. 15 to 30, 2019 include the reenactment of the Bornean datus settlement, Malay Ati competition or an Ati-Ati tribe performance, “Parada ng Lahi” cultural presentation by the Department of Education-Antique, and the Festival of Talents.
In the previous years, the Binirayan Festival was held every December in reverence to late governor Evelio Javier who initiated the festival.
It gave impetus to the historic event when the 10 Bornean “datus” first established their village along the riverbed of Malandog in this capital town.(With a report from PNA/PN)
