ILOILO City – Barotac Nuevo-based football teams emerged as champions in the Under-12 and Under-18 category of the first Jerry P. Treñas Dinagyang Football Festival on Jan.17 at the Central Philippine University Football Field.
In the U-18 category, Barotac Nuevo
Footballers United outplayed Jamindan F.C. in the finals, 5-1, while Janiuay
Defenders F.C. Iloilo clinched the bronze after a 3-2 victory over Iloilo
Bagwis F.C.
Before the finalists met, Barotac Nuevo blasted
Janiuay, 6-1, while Jamindan defeated Iloilo Bagwis, 3-1 in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, Boracay F.C. was crowned as champion of the Under-18 Plate category
when it defeated Ateneo de Iloilo in their finals matchup.
In the U-12 category, Barotac Nuevo selection bagged the championship following a 1-0 escape over Jaro F.C., while Janiuay Defenders F.C Iloilo obtained the bronze medal after winning 2-1 against Calinog F.C.
In the semifinals round of the U-12 category, Barotac Nuevo ousted Calinog, 2-1, and Jaro also prevailed over Janiuay with the same score line.
In the Under 12 Plate category, Leganes F.C. was hailed as the champion following a 3-0 annihilation over Assumption F.C.
The 1st Jerry P. Treñas Dinagyang Football Festival was organized by Jaro F.C. in cooperation with the Iloilo City Government in time for the city’s Dinagyang Festival./PN
