Families of ‘Ursula’ victims get aid from prov’l capitol

ILOILO – The families of 16 casualties due to typhoon “Ursula” last month received financial assistance from the provincial government.

Each relative received P20,000 from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).

Provincial Administrator Suzette Mamon who represented Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. and PSWDO chief Dr. Neneth Pador, distributed the checks on Jan. 17 at the Governor’s Office.

Of the total casualties, four came from Balasan; four from Barotac Nuevo; three from Batad; two from Carles; and one each from Estancia, Dueñas, and Passi City.

Andria de Asis of Barangay Jalaud, Barotac Nuevo lost her husband and three children on Dec. 25, 2019 due to flashflood. She received a total of P80,000.

The four were on vacation at her husband’s house in Batad when the typhoon struck. She was in Manila during that time while her two other children were not able to join the vacation.

“I was in Manila that time and was scheduled to fly to Kuwait to work as a domestic helper. I didn’t expect that it will happen,” she narrated while trying to contain her emotion.

De Asis thanked the provincial government for the assistance. She added that the governor assured her of a job at the capitol to ease her financial burden.

Meanwhile, Dr. Pador said the province is looking at providing scholarship to De Asis’ two children. The PSWDO also recommended to the provincial board to include in the cash-for-work program those who lost their homes during the typhoon. (LHC, Capitol News/PN)
