Uniwheels nears Treñas Basketball crown

ILOILO City – Uniwheels is just a victory away from clinching the title of the Jerry P. Treñas Basketball Tournament after a 93-87 win over J. Cordon Construction-DPWH 2nd District in Game 1 of the best-of-three finals on Jan. 19 at the Jaro Gymnasium.

Cameroonian import Prince Eze, Mark Ceniza and Posoy Arenal took turns on the offensive end all game long for Uniwheels to draw the first blood.

The victors feasted on the J. Cordon team that missed the crucial services of reinforcements Landry Sanjo and Rolly Jaca in the championship opener.

The second game of the finals series was played last night, and if J. Cordon pulled the victory, the teams will stretch to a do-or-die Game 3 showdown slated at 6 p.m. tonight.

Meanwhile, On D’ Move Sportswear ended the campaign with a bronze finish after a tough battle against Guimaras Leopards.

In the side events of the tournament, Leopards’ Sherwin Diama emerged as the Slam Dunk Competition champion after defeating Asialink E&C Trucking’s Ryan Calamaan in the finals.

The Three-Point shooting contest champion was owned by Inno Miclat of the On D’ Move Sportswear after defeating his teammate Matthew Montalvo in the final round./PN
