ILOILO – The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) launched a program geared at reforming troublesome gangs.

“These gangs are mostly involved sa mga rumble kasi walang nagdi-direct ng kanilang buhay. This made me decide na magkaroon ng programa na maging responsible sila at mabago natin ang kanilang buhay,” said Police Colonel Roland Vilela, IPPO director.

The Gang Reformation and Integration Program (GRIP) calls for, among others, the identification of gangs in the province and enlisting them in productive activities of the police in their respective areas.

Vilela said one of these activities is sports competitions. These could veer the gangs away from criminal activities such as drug trafficking, he said.

Over 10 gangs have so far been identified and they expressed willingness to participate in GRIP.

“We are also planning to look for jobs for them para maging busy sila sa trabaho. Kasi minsan ang members ng gangs kulang sa pansin ng pamilya at walang trabaho kaya naisip nila na gumawa nang kung anu-ano,” said Vilela./PN
