ILOILO City – More policemen on motorcycles would be patrolling the city at night.
Their tasks are to maintain peace and order and secure, among others, people working on nightshift, according to the Iloilo City Police office (ICPO).
These policemen would be chasing criminals such as snatchers on motorcycles, said Police Colonel Martin Defensor, city police director.
Before dawn on Sunday, a young woman lost her bag to motorcycle-riding snatchers along the Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue in Mandurriao district.
According to 22-year-old Mary Grace Cordero of Pototan, Iloilo it was around 1:45 a.m. She was walking. Suddenly a back rider of a red and white motorcycle snatched her bag.
The snatchers were wearing helmets and black jackets so she failed to take a good look at them, Cordero told the police.
“We’re using the motorcycles donated by the city government,” said Defensor.
Mayor Jerry Treñas turned over 30 motorcycles to the ICPO in 2019. Eighteen were initially mobilized. The motorcycle cops were posted in areas where there were establishments operating round the clock such as call centers and coffee shops.
“We focus on crime-prone areas,” said Defensor./PN
